Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) is a specialized, gentle massage technique designed to stimulate the flow of lymph — the fluid that carries immune cells and removes waste products from the body's tissues. Using precise, rhythmic hand movements, the therapist guides lymphatic fluid toward the lymph nodes where it can be filtered and eliminated.
Unlike deeper massage techniques, MLD uses very light pressure applied in specific sequences along the body's lymphatic pathways. The technique was developed by Dr. Emil Vodder in the 1930s and has since become a recognized treatment in physiotherapy, oncology care, and post-surgical rehabilitation worldwide.
This treatment is particularly effective for individuals experiencing lymphedema — a chronic condition causing swelling in the limbs — as well as post-surgical and post-mastectomy swelling, sports injuries, chronic sinusitis, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It is also used cosmetically to reduce puffiness and improve skin tone.
Our therapists are trained in advanced MLD techniques and will design a treatment plan tailored to your condition. Consistent sessions are often recommended for those with chronic lymphatic conditions, while a short course of treatments can dramatically accelerate recovery following surgery.
